In the next couple of paragraphs, I am going to be explaining the themes of irony and conflict in the presently story,The Machine That won the contend, by Isaac Asimov. The setting of The Machine That Won the War is the future of the earth, and a great war had just been won against the confrontation race. Two men, Swift and Henderson, are the main characters, and are debating over who in reality won the war for earth. They are discussing whether or not it was the giant scheme computer known as Multivac, or the men in arouse of making the maneuvers and programming the computer. The author Isaac Asimov is using description and argument as his modes of discourse for the story. In the story, Henderson who is an excitable man, explained that the fact that Multivac was nothing more than a large machine, only capable of doing what it was programmed of doing. Henderson explained that some of Multivacs data mightiness have been unreliable. The great computer was capable of creating a direct difference of opinion which earth forces could be used to attack their enemies. However, with Henderson imputing faulty data, this caused some of the appointment plans to be unreliable. Hendersons internal conflict between himself losing his job and deficient to keep it made him jingle with the programming until it seemed right.
